Henley Food Swap is a regular event meeting four to six times a year. Host Jessica Hayes helped established the event in summer 2013 and has a growing number of loyal swappers who bring amazing produce – including handmade/ craft items. If you’re in or around Henley and would like more information, please email Jessica at email@example.com
Our next Henley Apples for Eggs food swap will be: Saturday 28th October 2017
Further swaps for 2017 will be 25th November.
Just to give you a flavour of our last swap, I brought home some lovely fresh vegetables, yummy muffins, cookies, jelly, seeds and fresh potted herbs. In exchange I took along chocolate bark and chocolate creams, rhubarb, fresh horseradish and lots of cucumbers.
My family and I were delighted. And not a penny changed hands. But best of all, we all had a lovely time, the atmosphere was jolly, supportive and enthusiastic.
Food swapping is a collaborative, community-based activity. No money changes hands; the currency is your home produce! I make extra batches of foods I make for my family during the prior month, so it is no trouble to bring my baskets full of tasty treats. I also raid my freezer of fruits I have grown in the past and whip up pies and cakes and of course a food swap is the perfect time to trade any gluts you may have of your home grown produce. The selection of foods to swap is always brilliant and wonderfully tasty and interesting. My family is always delighted to help me savour the delicious things I bring home from our swaps.
If you would like an enjoyable and productive way to spend a morning, as well as contribute in a small way to “green” issues like local community, the environment, organic and trustworthy food, sourcing our food locally, and greater independence from large corporations, then please come along, I guarantee you will receive a very warm welcome . And please register in advance (above to the right) so I will know to expect you.
Before registering to attend the Food Swap please read the following notes carefully.
Tickets are for the swapper only – so if you’re bringing partner/kids etc no need to register them. Please also bring along some friends, the more the merrier!
A Food Swap event is around an hour and a half long, the first half hour we chat and display our stuff and complete ‘swap cards’ for each item of produce we’ve brought, setting up some tasting samples etc. We then taste samples and peruse the available items and write our names on the Swap Cards to show our interest. Once everyone is ready we look at our goods to see who has expressed interest…. and then the fun begins, using our swap cards for guidance we finalise our swaps – and rapidly find ourselves with a stash of fantastic produce to take home.
The unit of exchange is roughly 6 eggs or a jar of jam. So please package your items to be equivalent in effort or value to one “unit”.
Please also do come on time, as the swapping happens all at once and we would hate for you to arrive once we have all completed our swaps.
You must be over 18 to register as a Swapper. Under 18s are welcome to participate in the event under the supervision of a parent or guardian who has registered.
If you register for a ticket and then can’t make it, please let us know so we can release your place.
This is a community event, and as such, to participate you are acknowledging that the food being swapped has not been prepared in commercial kitchens subject to food Standards Agency certification. With this in mind, we ask that you take great care to bring only food prepared to the highest standards and agree not to hold liable the food swap hosts, swap venue owners or other swap participants should you be in any way dissatisfied or adversely affected. (And remember, if you don’t like the look of it, you don’t have to take it)
If you need any information about a food swap, what to expect and what to bring, you will see an explanation on our website, or feel free to call me on 077333 61940 or look at our Facebook page, Apples for Eggs Henley Food Swap
